Product Description
Covonia mentholated cough mixture provides symptomatic relief of chesty coughs and sore throats. It is an effective medication that helps to relieve:- Congestion and irritation, - Mild expectorant to help remove phlegm and a demulcent. Liquorice and Squill belong to a group of medicines known as expectorants. They help loosen phlegm in people with chesty coughs by coughing it up. Liquorice is also a demulcent, which means that it soothes the throat. The other active ingredient is menthol, which helps to relieve congestion and gives a lovely fresh sensation. It also acts to relieve congestion associated with chesty coughs and bronchitis. Covonia mentholated cough mixture works without causing drowsiness and is suitable for adults, elderly and children age 5 years and over. *Chesty Cough Mixture Mentholated. Always read the label.
Ingredients
Active ingredients per 5ml: levomenthol 4mg, squill tincture 0.6ml, liquorice liquid extract 0.125ml. Also contains: ethanol, sucrose, glucose, sodium parahydroxybenzoates (E215, E219). Alcohol 7vol%. Sucrose 1.3g per 5ml.
Directions
SHAKE THE BOTTLE. Dose: For Oral Use: Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: Take 1 or 2 x 5ml spoonfuls. Children 5-12 years: Take 1 x 5ml spoonful. The dose may be repeated every 4 hours if required. Not recommended for children under 5 years. DO NOT EXCEED THE STATED DOSE. If symptoms persist or worsen consult your doctor. Do not take if you know you are sensitive to any of the ingredients listed or if you suffer from a heart complaint. Precautions. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if: you are taking carbenoxolone for stomach ulcers, or thiazides which are diuretic medicines (water tablets). This product may interact with these drugs. Pregnancy and Breast Feeding. As with all medicines you should consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if pregnant or breast feeding. Ingredients Guidance. Do not use if you are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients listed. This product contains 7.7 vol% ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 600mg per 10ml dose, equivalent to 15ml beer, 6ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in pregnant or breast feeding women, children and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy. Contains glucose and sucrose. Each 5ml dose contains 1.53g sucrose, to be taken into account in patients with diabetes. If you know that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine. Also contains sodium methyl, ethyl and propyl hydroxybenzoates (E219, E215, E217) which may cause an allergic reaction (possibly delayed). IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY TAKE TOO MUCH see a doctor straight away. Do not use after the expiry date shown on the label. Side Effects. Side effects do not occur very often when the correct dose is taken but possible side effects are: allergic reactions (dermatitis, skin rashes, flushing and itching lumps), low blood potassium levels, sodium and water retention. Unbalanced potassium and sodium levels may produce symptoms of muscle weakness, confusion, disorientation and heart irregularities. If you do notice any side effects, stop using the product and tell your doctor or pharmacist.
